Introduction

"Critterlight" is a collection of  wildlife photographs that I have produced over the past nine years. A sampling of those photographs appears on this site, and will be updated regularly. The earliest images  were created in 1999, the year that I began making photographs. These photographs were taken at every opportunity of “sweet” morning light that I was able to take advantage of.

Anyone who has viewed and photographed wildlife through a long fine lens knows the feeling; it is simply addictive. Seeing these incredible beings in their natural habitat is a real thrill. Bringing images of them home on film is even more of one. Getting out before sunrise, year round, and exploring the fields, forests and shoreline, works well for me.

Being in awe of birds, and because of  their beauty and  relative abundance close to my home, I have decided to concentrate on photographing them. Photographing birds is also an extremely challenging task, at times daunting, and in my opinion, one of the most difficult subjects for the wildlife photographer.

For those who are interested, I produce these images with a Nikon system: F100 bodies and several AF-S lenses. The 600MM F4 AF-S with a 1.4 TC,  is my favorite and most often use combination. I shoot Fuji Provia 100F, generally pushed one stop (200), and occasionally when the light is sparse, two stops (320). Fill flash is used for avian subjects in most instances. The slides are scanned with a hi-resolution Nikon scanner, and minimally corrected in Photoshop.

Recently (April 2005),  I have started shooting with a Nikon D2x digital camera. The results are far beyond my expectations.

My bird identification skills are average, so any corrections or explanations are most welcome. Also, this is a "home made" web site, using my own limited skills at building one, so I don't suppose it will be as slick as one produced professionally. None the less, I hope you enjoy it.

Photograph Sales

The photographs that I produce are for sale either for licensing, or as display prints. Display prints are available as state-of-the-art archival ink jet prints. *Independent testing laboratories have estimated their life to be approximately eighty years.  The fact that I control the entire process from releasing the shutter to scanning and final print output, guarantees first class results.  In my opinion, the prints are stunning, and equal or exceed any printed in a "professional" lab.

Licensing of Photographs

Most of my photographs are available for licensing  for all industry standard stock photo uses. I do not offer buyouts or perpetual all industry exclusives, but do offer all other types of licenses. Please contact me for pricing and indicate your intended use. I  like to deliver production materials in the form of hi-resolution scans burned on a CD, or digital files produced from a Nikon D2X.  If possible, I prefer not to send original slides. High quality dupes of original slides can be made  available.

*All prints are sold without mats or frames. Prices do not include applicable New York State sales tax,  or shipping and handling charges, which are generally $5.00.
